The 12th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team showed no signs of an 11-day layoff as the Cougars notched a 5-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at Garden City Community College.
Winners of seven straight, the Cougars improve to 6-0 in the KJCCC West and 10-1 overall while the Broncbusters drop their seventh straight result falling to 0-6 in conference play and 4-7 on the season. Barton continues the road trip with a Saturday drive to 20th ranked Coffeyville Community College for a 4:00 p.m. kick.
Barton was sluggish for the opening seven-minutes until leading goal scorer Nina Norshie outraced Garden City's keeper Anahi Castillo to Ivanna Faria's through ball for a 10-yard near post strike giving Barton a 1-0 advantage.
The Cougar lead would be short lived as Garden City would supply the equalizer just 22 seconds later. Catching the Barton backline off-guard, Destiny Rojo's long pass found the attacking Carys Grieve in slicing the defense for a 1-v-1 victory against the Cougars' goalkeeper Nia Baker.
Nearly seven-minutes later, Alisia Solis broke the tie with a 15-yard far post strike for her 4th of the season delivering Norshie's setup pass giving Barton a 2-1 halftime lead.
In the second half, Head Coach Ousmane Camara's halftime message carried onto the pitch as the Cougars struck for three more net shakers.
Just 10-minutes into the second frame, Norshie rattled the net for the second time taking Aya Saiki's setup pass created by Rin Sato's through ball giving Barton a 3-1 lead.
Scoreless over the next twenty minutes, Norshie added two more markers in a span of 6:19, the first on a penalty kick conversion to secure her eighth hat trick of the season before adding her fourth of the game and 33rd of the year placing a perfect chip to the far post delivering Natalia Baltodano's forward pass and 6th assist of the year.
Baker improved to 7-0 between the pipes rejecting two of the Broncbusters' three shots on frame in 79:07 of action, giving way to Ashley Melendez who piloted the final 10:53 without facing a shot on frame.
