Second half frenzy sends Cougars' past Conquistadors
Four second-half net shakers pushed the Barton Community College women's soccer team to a 5-1 road victory Wednesday afternoon against Dodge City Community College at Memorial Stadium
The win moves the Cougars to 2-0-1 in conference play and to 4-0-1 overall while the loss sends the Conquistadors to 0-3-0 in conference play and on the season. Barton will ride its' three-game winning streak into Saturday's highly anticipated Jayhawk Conference showdown with Johnson County Community College. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. from the Cougar Soccer Complex.
Barton wasted no time finding the net in the second minute as Seulgi Lee netted her first collegiate goal on put away a Francesca Martella's first assist of the season.
The margin remained at a 1-0 standstill until 6:32 remaining in the opening half when Dodge City's Maria Macedo's chipped thru ball found Treasher Valcin in open space providing the 1-1 equalizer into the locker rooms.
Head Coach Ousmane Camara's speech at halftime would pay off. A carbon copy of the start, Kadin Stinson broke the deadlock in the 47th minute finding the net for the eventual game winner.
Barton's lead increased to 3-1 just 10-minutes later as Fatima Leme blasted her first net finder of the season from 20-yards out off Daniela Paez's fourth assist of the season.
Just 24-seconds later, Stinson rattled the nets for the second time off of Francesca Martella's setup stretching the lead to 4-1. Dahin Cabrera concluded the second half frenzy tallying her third goal on the year off of Lee's setup.
Net keeper Nia Baker notched her fourth victory of the season rejecting four of five shots on frame.
