Lady Cougars blanked by Blue Dragons in early Jayhawk Conference affair #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's soccer team fell 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex in a much anticipated Jayhawk Conference affair with Hutchinson Community College.

The Cougars suffer their first loss in conference play falling to 1-1-0 and 1-4-0 on the season while the Blue Dragons' conference opener improves to 3-1-0 on the year.

After firing off the first three shots of the contest, the tide quickly turned on Barton as Hutchinson's Samantha Vaughn capitalized on a one-on-one breakaway beating keeper Itzel Diaz far post in giving the Blue Dragons the essential game winner as 12:50 clicked off the clock.

Looking for the equalizer, the Cougars best opportunity was denied just twenty-six seconds into the second half as the Blue Dragons' keeper Chiara Soergel snagged Domenica Pena's strike on target.

Five minutes later Hutchinson would tack on an insurance goal as Charvelle Henry booted home Naomi Waithira's thru ball putting the Blue Dragons in front 2-0.

Itzel kept the Cougars alive, shutting down several attacking sprees by the Blue Dragons.

Despite being upended on the scoreboard, Barton outshot Hutchinson 12-7 with a plus four edge on frame.
