Lady Cougars' comeback falls short in 2-1 loss at Garden City

Two early second half goals provided the difference Wednesday afternoon as the Barton Community College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Garden City Community College.   Following a scoreless first half, the Broncbusters broke through with two goals within the first ten minutes of the second frame before holding off Barton's charge for the Jayhawk West victory.  The Lady Cougars drop two games behind Garden City in the West at 3-3 and 4-5-1 on the season while the Broncbusters solidified their second place standing at 5-1 and 6-5-1 overall.   Next up for Barton is a trip to Goodland, Kansas, on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. regional game at Northwest Kansas Technical College.

The Broncbusters struck for two early second half goals, getting the first eight minutes in the second frame as Sierra Rivera fed Ruth Estrada before tacking on another just two minutes later on Vanessa Delarosa-Herrera's game winner.

Despite the two goal deficit Barton wouldn't go away striking back seven minutes later as Garden City hometown products Megan Martinez and Amber Miller executed in cutting the deficit to one.  With the ball near the far side out of bounds, Martinez kept the ball in play finding Miller just outside the eighteen who took one dribble inside the box striking top shelf to the near post.

Controlling possession most of the second half, the Lady Cougars simply came up on the unlucky side of multiple golden opportunities including an offsides call wiping out a game tying goal in the final thirty seconds of play.
