Strong defensive effort not enough as Lady Cougar soccer’s season ends 2-0 to No. 5 Butler

The Barton Community College women's soccer team's had their season come to an end for the fourth straight year in the Region VI semifinals as No. 5 ranked Butler Community College averted an upset bid defeating the Lady Cougars 2-0 Thursday at the Topeka Hummer Sports Park.  Barton ends the season at 9-7 while the Grizzlies improve to 18-2 advancing to Friday's 10:00 a.m. championship game against No. 14 Johnson County Community College.

Jaclyn Means scored both goals propelling the Grizzlies to its sixth consecutive title game appearance.  Lauren Allan set up the first sending a cross from deep within the corner to Means outside the 18'.  Means, one of three Butler forwards to earn first team all-conference honors, settled the cross launching a left foot blast to the top 90 far post giving the Grizzlies the one goal lead with 2:57 before halftime.

Means put the final dagger in the Lady Cougars late in second half action splitting the defense beating reigning conference goalkeeper of the week Maria-Elena Garcia with a rocket upper 90 far post with 8:57 remaining.

Despite playing one of its top defensive efforts of the season and limiting the high powered Grizzlies to two goals, the Lady Cougars suffered its sixth straight loss to the Grizzlies dating back to 2010.   Butler also evens the neutral field series record with the Lady Cougars at 2-2 while improving to 18-4 in the fifteen year series history.
