Barton women’s soccer on short end of foot race, fall 5-0 to #11 NOC-Tonkawa
It was the track meet the Barton Community College women’s soccer team didn’t want to see transpire Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex as No. 11 Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa sprinted past the Lady Cougars for a 5-0 victory. Leading 2-0 at halftime, the Lady Mavericks quickly struck scoring just twenty-nine seconds into the second half sticking the dagger in the Lady Cougars. Barton, who has now lost to the No. 6 and No. 11 teams in the nation to open the season, fall to 0-2 while the Lady Mavericks improve to 4-1. The Lady Cougars will return to conference play this Saturday traveling to Cowley College for a 1:00 p.m. kick in Arkansas City.

The speed of the Lady Mavericks gave Barton fits from the opening kick but it was a corner kick fifteen minutes into the contest that got NOC-Tonkawa on the scoreboard first as Alma Figueroa's corner kick deflected off Barton goalkeeper Maria-Elena Garcia's gloves into the goal. Memory Phiri, whose blazing speed caused havoc on the Cougars all game, was Johnny on the spot for a loose ball in the box squeezing it past Garcia increasing the lead out to two with 16:12 on the first half clock.
It took the Lady Mavericks just twenty-nine seconds into second half action to put a dagger in the Lady Cougars as Caroline Loyd's thru ball put BreAnn Tolleson in a one-on-one with Garcia who booted the ball into the lower 90 far post. Fifteen minutes later Tolleson was on the giving end sending a cross to Figueroa building the Lady Maverick's lead out to four. Alexis Gipson put the final touches on the victory scoring unassisted with 16:21 remaining.
Put into many dangerous situations throughout the contest, Garcia came up with seven saves on the thirteen goal attack by the Lady Mavericks as the Cougars managed only two shots on frame.
