Five Lady Cougar Soccer players commit to play at the next level

Five players from the Barton Community College women’s soccer team have committed to play next season at the four year level. Forward Edith Scarlett Real will head south to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin while four others will stay in Kansas. Goalkeeper Maria-Elena Garcia inked with McPherson College, midfielder Maria Munoz to Southwestern College, and midfielders Natalie Espino-Kennedy and Maria Rodriguez are headed to Wichita rejoining former Lady Cougar Head Coach Aaron Avila at Newman University.

Torch passes, Camara takes over Barton women’s soccer program; Avila remains men’s coach

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees approved at Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting for the promotion of Ousmane “OC” Camara as head coach for the women’s soccer team. Serving the past two years as assistant coach for both the men and women’s programs, Camara will assume the head women’s position as Aaron Avila will concentrate his efforts in continuing to lead the men’s program.

Seven Lady Cougar Soccer players earn post-season honors

Seven players from the Barton Community College women’s soccer team recently received post-season awards following the conclusion of its 9-7 season and reaching the region final four for the fourth straight year. The Lady Cougars’ had two sophomores and five freshman being named to the 2015 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference All-Conference team while one landed on the twenty-two member All-Region VI team.

Strong defensive effort not enough as Lady Cougar soccer’s season ends 2-0 to No. 5 Butler

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team’s had their season come to an end for the fourth straight year in the Region VI semifinals as No. 5 ranked Butler Community College averted an upset bid defeating the Lady Cougars 2-0 Thursday at the Topeka Hummer Sports Park. Barton ends the season at 9-7 while the Grizzlies improve to 18-2 advancing to Friday’s 10:00 a.m. championship game against No. 14 Johnson County Community College.

Barton’s Garcia becomes second straight Lady Cougar to earn weekly conference award

Maria-Elena Garcia becomes the second member of the Barton Community College women’s soccer team to earn Jayhawk Conference weekly honors being recently named the Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts in two Lady Cougar victories last week. Garcia joins Jennifer Mendez to earn the honor for the women’s program this season after Mendez donned the award the week prior after scoring her second hat trick of the season.

Freshmen lead Lady Cougar soccer to fourth straight region semifinal with 3-0 win at Dodge City

For the fourth consecutive year the Barton Community College women’s soccer team booked a trip to the Region VI semifinals with a decisive 3-0 shutout Saturday at Dodge City Community College in first round action. The fifth seeded Lady Cougars avenged a 2-1 defeat at Dodge City earlier in the season as five freshman accounted for all three second half goals to end the Conquistadors season. The victory was also the second consecutive first round victory for Barton as the Lady Cougars ended Allen County’s season last year on a shootout win on the Red Devils home turf. Next up for Barton will be a Thursday trip to Topeka’s Hummer Park with the daunting task of trying to knock-off top seeded and No. 6 nationally ranked Butler Community College. Kick-off scheduled for 11:00 a.m. with the winner advancing to Friday’s 10:00 a.m. championship against the winner of No. 14 Johnson County Community College and nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College.

Barton Community College women’s soccer team’s Jennifer Mendez was named the Jayhawk Conference’s Player of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts in two Lady Cougar victories last week.

Barton women's soccer tunes-up for playoffs with 7-1 blowout at KCK

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team closed out the regular season today in Kansas City with a 7-1 victory at Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Lady Cougars led by two at the break then scored three goals in the first five minutes of the second half to cruise for a fifth straight victory in closing out the regular season. Barton finishes tied for fourth place at 7-4 and 8-6 overall while KCK finishes the season at 2-8-1 and 4-10-1. Next up for the Lady Cougars is a Saturday trip to Dodge City for first round Region VI playoffs at Dodge City Community College. The Lady Conquistadors finished the regular season at 10-4 tying Barton for fourth place in the conference but get the No. 4 seed virtue of their 2-1 victory over Barton on September 26 in Dodge City.

Lady Cougars close out home field with 4-0 shutout over Coffeyville

Playing their final home game of the 2015 season, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half defeating Coffeyville Community College 4-0 Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The victory locks up the fifth seed for the Region VI playoffs as the Lady Cougars improve to 6-4 in the Jayhawk conference while moving past the .500 mark for the first time this season at 7-6. Coffeyville meanwhile was essentially eliminated from a post-season berth dropping to 4-6 in conference and 7-11 overall. Barton will wrap up the regular season Monday, October 26, at Kansas City Kansas Community College in a 4:00 p.m. kick-off.

Lady Cougars blow out MCC-Maple Woods for third straight win, Mendez with second hat trick

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team scored eight goals for the second time in the last five games routing MCC-Maple Woods 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The Lady Cougars scored four each half including jumping out to an early lead behind a strong south wind to coast to their third straight win. The non-conference victory improves Barton to 6-6 on the season while the Monarchs drop to 1-12. Sitting in fifth place in the Jayhawk standings at 5-4, the Lady Cougars return to Jayhawk play on Saturday hosting eighth place Coffeyville Community College (3-5, 6-10) at 2:00 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season. Barton will then wrap up the regular season Monday, October 26, at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Barton women’s soccer rallies for 2-1 win over Allen County

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team scored two second half goals rallying to a 2-1 victory over Allen County Community College Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Trailing 1-0 at the half, the Lady Cougars took advantage of a second half south wind scoring two goals within five minutes apart in taking the lead with over thirty minutes to play. The victory moves Barton into sole possession of fifth place at 5-4 and 5-6 on the season while Allen County drops to 3-6 in the Jayhawk and 7-9 on the season. With three games remaining in the season, Barton will step out of conference play for their next game hosting MCC-Maple Woods in a 2:00 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday before concluding the season with two conference games.

Two first half goals power Barton women’s soccer in 2-1 victory at Garden City

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team scored two first half goals then held off a Garden City Community College second half charge to pick up a 2-1 road victory today at Broncbuster Stadium. The Lady Cougars improve to 4-4 in conference play and 4-6 overall while Garden City drops to 3-5 and 5-8 on the season. Coming off consecutive road games, Barton will begin a three game home stretch Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. kick versus Allen County Community College. Barton will then have two remaining home games on October 20 and October 24 before wrapping up regular season play October 26 in Kansas City.

Barton women’s soccer shutout at No. 19 Hutchinson

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team struggled with the speed and pressure from Hutchinson Community College Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex as the No. 19 ranked Blue Dragons scored two each half in winning 4-0. The Lady Cougars drop to 3-4 in conference play and 3-6 overall while Hutchinson keeps pace for the conference title at 6-1 improving to 8-3 on the season. Barton will be away from competition until next Monday as the Lady Cougars travel to Garden City Community College for a 5:00 p.m. kick at Broncbuster Stadium.

Freshmen hat tricks lead Lady Cougar soccer in 8-0 win over Neosho

Behind a pair of hat tricks from freshman Jennifer Mendez and Natalie Espino-Kennedy, the Barton Community College women’s soccer team cruised to an 8-0 victory over Neosho County Community College Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Playing only a 70-minute match due to a limited Neosho roster, Barton was never threatened in scoring four goals in each half to break a three game losing streak. The Lady Cougars improve to 3-3 in conference play and 3-5 overall while Neosho remains winless at 0-5 in the Jayhawk 0-10 on the season. Barton will next travel to national Hutchinson on Wednesday to take on the national receiving votes Blue Dragons in a key conference matchup at 4:00 p.m. at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Rough first half too much to overcome, Lady Cougar soccer blanked by No. 9 Butler

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team was unable hold off the first half Grizzly onslaught Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex surrendering five first half goals in losing 6-0 to No. 9 ranked Butler Community College. The Lady Cougars drop to 2-3 in conference play and 2-5 overall while Butler stays atop the Jayhawk standings unblemished at 6-0 and 10-2 on the season. Barton will look to end its three game slide this Saturday as the Lady Cougars welcome Neosho County Community College for a 2:00 p.m. kick with the men’s squads to follow at 4:00 p.m.

Lady Cougar soccer taken down in Dodge City

The Barton Community College women’s soccer team experienced an unexpected loss Saturday in Dodge City suffering a 2-1 defeat to Dodge City Community College. Despite controlling play and opportunities throughout the night, Barton’s inability to finish and Dodge City capitalizing on its chances secured the Lady Conquistadors’ first win over the Lady Cougars since the 2007 Region VI playoffs. The loss drops Barton to 2-2 in conference play with its second straight defeat and 2-4 overall while Dodge City wins its third straight improving to 3-1 and 5-3. Next for the Lady Cougars is a Wednesday 3:00 p.m. kick at the Cougar Soccer Complex against No. 9 ranked Butler Community College.
