Second half dooms No. 12 Lady Cougar soccer in battle of conference unbeaten

Jumping out to a two goal lead Friday at the Cougar Soccer Complex, the No. 12 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team surrendered three second half goals within fourteen minutes in falling 4-2 to No. 8 Butler Community College.   With the loss Barton falls to 8-1 in conference play and 8-3 overall while Butler remains perfect in conference at 5-0 and 10-2 overall.  The Lady Cougars next home game will be Tuesday against Independence Community College in a 2:00 p.m. kick-off followed by the Cougar men at 4:00 p.m.

Barton grabbed an early 1-0 lead off the foot of sophomore Bianca Barron whose 60' blast sailed just over the Butler keeper.  With the goal Barron moved into a fourth place tie on the Barton all-time list in points scored, tying Flavia Bernardes 104 mark set in the 2008 and 2009 season.  Her forty-six career goals also move her to within three of second place Yesenia Garcia's achievement in the 2007-2008 seasons.

Aliya Marshall added a two goal first half cushion with a breakaway goal with 11:44 remaining but Butler's Brittney Lawrence struck back a mere forty-three seconds later finishing off a Maddie Decker cross.

The second half was all Butler as the Grizzlies utilized the stiff north wind to their advantage both on the offensive and defensive ends.  Limiting the Lady Cougars to zero shots in second half play, the Grizzlies launched eight shots with five coming on goal and three getting past the reigning KJCCC and NJCAA goalkeeper of the week Stephanie Lomas.

Morgan Foster recorded her third hat trick this season, scoring all three Butler goals in the second half as the Grizzlies took full control of the Jayhawk title race.  Foster tied the game with sixteen minutes to play scoring off an Alyssia Salinas assist then added consecutive unassisted goals within forty seconds of each other giving Butler a 4-2 lead with 1:42 to play.
