NOC struck first just 5:40 into the contest as the result of A Cougar defensive breakdown allowed NOC to strike first just 5:40 into the contest. Barton leading scorer Bianca Barron would tie the contest twelve minutes later on a header from fellow Utah native Olimpia Bonilla. Twelve minutes later the Cougars would jump on top as Mariana Poveda found Courtney Galliher to Barton the 2-1 lead into halftime.
Galliher increased the Barton lead to two seven minutes into the second frame finding Emily Troll to give the Cougars the 3-1 advantage. Barton seemed to have locked up the game with fourteen minutes remaining on a Barron to Jessica Rosenberg goal but the Mavericks quickly responded one minute later to cut the lead back to two. The Cougars played strong defense the rest of the way and held on for the 4-2 upset victory.
