13th ranked Barton Wrestling drops home dual to No. 22 Colby.
The Barton Community College wrestling team tied Colby Community College in matches Wednesday during sophomore night but came up short in the conference dual as the 13th ranked Cougars fell 33-22 on the scoreboard to the 22nd ranked Trojans.
Barton's next action will come February 9-10 in Colby as the Trojans host the KJCCC duals featuring four matches in two days.
Four open weight division dotted the lineup sheet as the Trojans would have a twelve point advantage before sweat dropped to the mat.
Beginning the action with the first open forfeit coming at the 174 for the Trojans, Barton cut the deficit to two as 7th ranked Joey Ewalt picked up two of his four takedowns in the third period to register an 11-3 major decision improving to 20-10 on the year.
The Cougars were open in both the 197 and 285 divisions with Colby open in the 125, putting the score 18-10 headed into the final five matches of the evening.
Colby widened their gap by six with a first period fall as 133 division 8th ranked Rhett Minor worked Javier Duchene into a first period fall.
The 141 class turned on a dime as the Cougars' Drew Burgoon fought off multiple near mat pinnings in the first period before catching 9th ranked Rush Fannon midway through the second frame for a 3:48 back flattening for the upset.
With momentum swinging to the home team, the Trojans silenced the crowd in the 149 division as Kaena DeSantos knocked off Kolby Droegemeier in a 7-4 decision giving Colby an eleven point lead into the final two matches.
Needing a pair of pins to win the dual, the match was over in the ensuing 157 match as Colby returned the upset on the home Cougars as Dino Blades knocked off 3rd ranked Gable Howerton with a 1:36 Fall in handing the sophomore just his fifth loss of the year.
Andrew DeArmond concluded the night's festivities and his last time on a Barton mat in style, chalking up a 1:49 first period pin over Kody Hahn improving to 20-7 on the year.
