Barton golf struggles in final round of Crossroads of America Invitational, women finish runner-up with men seventh.
The Barton Community College golf teams had "one of those days" on the course as both the men and women slipped from its opening round placings to finish second and seventh respectively at the Crossroads of America Invitational held at The Golf Club of Wentzville in Wentzville, Missouri.
Fresh off last week's tournament victory, the women's team led the eight team tournament field by five with an opening team score of 315, but slipped back to the runner-up spot after carding a 323 in final round action for a team total of 70-over 638. Iowa Western Community College chased down the Cougars in surging to the top with a Tuesday score of 312 to take the title by six strokes.
The Cougar men found themselves just five strokes out of second following Monday's 306 score but like their women counterparts, Barton struggled on Tuesday. Adding some illness to the course challenges, the Cougars limped into the clubhouse in seventh place of the ten team field with a 326 to accumulate a two-day total of 64-over 632.
Barton's next action comes October 7 as the Cougars compete in the two-day Blue Devil Fall Classic held at Dub's Dread Golf Course in Kansas City, Kansas.
