The 5th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team rolled to its fifth straight victory in opening up the spring season with an eighty-three stroke victory Monday in the two-day Coffeyville Invitational held at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
Playing from the white/men's tees in the tournament, the Cougars carded rounds of 331 and 319 for a 650 total on the long course in outdistancing Dodge City Community College's 733 team score. Fort Scott Community College completed the team entries of the Invite with an 844.
Mutita Booranakunamanee led five Cougars in the top ten of the nineteen entries with her third victory of the season. Carding an opening 76 to gain a seven stroke margin, the 30th ranked Booranakunamanee held the gap in the final round with a 6-over 77 for an 11-over 153 as teammate and 36th ranked Vilma Efraimsson matched the 77 to follow a first round 83 to finish in second with a 160.
Getsemani Carlos Lopez moved up the leaderboard two spots after the final round, closing with the day's third best round of 82 to finish in a fifth place tie at 169. One stroke behind Lopez was 48th ranked Ady Crough in carding 87 and 83 rounds to place seventh with Mai Intanant's collegiate debut recorded rounds of 85 and 88 for an eighth place 173 score.
Barton will host their next tournament on the schedule as the two-day Barton Invitational at Great Bend's StoneRidge Golf Course tees off at 1:00 p.m. Friday with Saturday's final round slated for 9:00 a.m.
