The Barton Community College women's golf team set a new school record Monday in Wentzville, Missouri, firing a team best 304 final round in a thirty-two stroke victory at the Crossroads JUCO Invitational.
The Cougars held a slim five stroke lead after Sunday's 325 in damp and cold conditions before blistering The Golf Club of Wentzville in the final round to surpass the school record by four in the combined 20-over round.
Barton took the top three individual spots with all five Cougars finishing in the top thirteen of the forty-five player field to tally a 629 to distance runner-up Augustana's 661.
Mutita Booranakunamanee led wire-to-wire, holding a three stroke lead with a 4-over 75 on Sunday to firing a 1-under 70 closing round to win by eleven strokes over teammate Vilma Efraimsson with a two-day total of 3-over 145.
Having won the KWU Fall Invitational the last time the Cougars were on the course, Efraimsson followed her opening 80 with a 5-over 76 in leaping to the runner-up spot with a 156.
Also breaking 80 in the final round, Getsemani Carlos Lopez vaulted from the eight spot after carding an 84 with the final round of 7-over 78 to place third overall at 162.
Out of the top ten after Sunday's round, Ady Crough nearly cracked the 80 mark with a final trip around the course resulting in an 80 to jump into a tie for 6th place at 186. Madison Peters rounded out the five-man squad with a 174 with twin 87 rounds to finish 13th.
Barton entered a second squad into the meet, carding combined scores of 427 and 401 in finishing seventh of the seven team field with an 828. Anna Hislop led the second wave with 96 and 94 rounds to finish at 190. Other scores: Jacqueline Strunk (199), Elle McDaniel (215), Sydney Schneider (225), and Dawn Ledeboer (259).
The Cougars will have a day off the course before its next meet teeing off at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Baker University Fall Invitational held at Lawrence's Eagle Bend Golf Course.
