The Barton Community College women's golf team rode a huge lead into Tuesday's final day of the Kansas Wesleyan University Fall Invitational in cruising to a sixty-three stroke margin victory. The Lady Cougars posted a combined +30 318 in Monday's round at the Salina Country Club for a thirty-eight stroke advantage before closing out the 36-hole Invitational with a +37 to finish at 643.
Four Cougars finished among the top ten of the twenty-six player field being led by the twin 2-over 74 rounds from Vilma Efraimsson to capture the title by four strokes over Region VI foe Suthasinee Sridet of Dodge City Community College.
Fellow sophomore Mutita Booranakunamanee finished in a tie for fifth at 16-over with rounds of 79 and 81 on the par 72 course.
A trio of freshman rounded out the Cougar squad with Ady Crough's final round of 82 helped leap over teammate Getsemani Carlos Lopez to the 7th spot with a total of 22-over 166. Lopez, who opened with an 81, swapped first day positions with Crough after a tough 88 Tuesday round to finish at 25-over 169. Anna Hislop opened with 97 on the card but struggled in the closing round to post a 113 to finish at 210.
Barton entered a couple of individuals in the event, with Madison Peters posting consistent 98 and 96 rounds to finish tied for 17th at 194 while Jacqueline Strunk placed tied for 23rd with 98 and 112 rounds to tally a 210.
The Cougars' next meet will come in two weeks in a road trip to Wentzville, Missouri, to compete in the Crossroads JUCO Invitational held at The Golf Club of Wentzville.
