Crawford leads the pack after day one, Lady Cougar golf needs big comeback headed to final day
With teams battling less than ideal wind conditions, the Barton Community College women’s golf team struggled the most trailing by twenty-two strokes after Sunday’s first day of the Barton StoneRidge #4 Invitational played at StoneRidge Golf Club in Great Bend. Barton shot a team score of 391 through eighteen holes to trail first place Dodge City Community College’s 369 and just eight strokes better than third place Colby Community College’s 399. The Lady Cougars, who won the first conference meet of the season, have finished second to Dodge City in the last two conference meets. The teams will return to the links on Monday for nine-holes beginning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.

Barton does have five players in the top ten after the first day but three of the five are playing as individuals and not towards the team score. Sophomore Kaylee Crawford leads all golfers shooting an 87 while fellow sophomore Staisha Miller is in eighth with a 94 and freshman Madison Walden's 96 is currently good for ninth place. Freshman Natthakan Teeratrakul leads the Barton team with a third placing standing carding a 90 despite having penalty shots coming down the stretch on the last two holes. Freshman Abbie Thelen had the second best score of the Barton team shooting a 98.
