In less than ideal weather conditions Monday at StoneRidge Golf Club in Great Bend, the Barton Community College women's golf team distanced themselves from the field to win the Barton StoneRidge #6 Invitational by thirty-one strokes. The Lady Cougars led by twenty-one after day one's eighteen holes of competition then shot a 183 nine-hole score to increase the lead by ten for a final 559 score. Barton also placed six players in the top ten, led by Hutchinson freshman Kara Koepplin's 130 which captured individualist honors by a stroke over Dodge City Community College's Annie Sheridan. Dodge City finished with a second place 590 while Colby Community College came in third with a score of 627. The Lady Cougars will begin preparation for a possible repeat to the national championships as they will compete April 28-29 at the Region VI Championships at Hutchinson's Carey Park Golf Course.
Trailing by two strokes after the first eighteen holes, Kara Koepplin fired a nine-hole score of 44 to better Dodge City's Annie Sheridan by one for medalist honors. Kaylee Crawford's 140 placed third while Blakelee Cooper bounced back from a rough first day to shoot a 44 to move her into a fourth place tie at 144.
