Barton Bowling Concludes First Ever Tier 1 Tournament #GoBarton

The Barton Community College bowling teams sat a program milestone this past weekend competing in their first ever tier 1 event at the Mid-Stats Championships, held in Wichita, Kansas.

Competing in one of the toughest fields Barton will face all season featuring Division I and Division II powerhouses, the Cougar men concluded the opening day with a 23rd place showing demolishing 5066 pins in the six game opener falling just eight shy of Kansas State University. Lindenwood University tallied the most on the day with 6185 pins while Wichita State University compiled 6060 finishing runner-up of the 34 team standings.

In Sunday's 20 game Baker competition, the Cougars crushed over 3204 pins for a 28th place showing falling just three spots down the tournament leaderboard outlasting Drury University by 13 total pins earning the 25th place finish. Host school Wichita State University rolled to a baker best 4092 pins edging runner-up St. Ambrose University's 3858 total.

On the women's side the Lady Cougars put forth a solid performance on Saturday tallying 4703 pins finishing 20th in the 26 team field. Mount Mercy University's 5774 pins led the field with St. Ambrose University compiling 5659 for second.

Barton remained consistent in Sunday's 20 Baker games posting another 20th place finish compiling 3222 pins falling just three pins back of Iowa Central Community College. St. Ambrose University claimed the top spot with a 3830 with host school Wichita State University right behind in the runner-up spot with 3709 total pins.

Individually the Barton men were led by freshman Benjamin Banks 71st place performance with a score of 1081. Alec Roberts fell elevens spots back in the 82nd position combining for a total of 1044 pins.

Freshman Faith Whited led Barton individually averaging a score of 144 over the six games destroying 868 pins earning an 86th place finish in the women's field of 233 entrants.

Alexandria Newell fell just two spots down in 88th falling five pins short of Whited totaling 863 posting the second best average score of 143.

Barton's next action will come this weekend in the 11th Annual Hammer Lions Classic held Saturday and Sunday at Plaza Lanes in St. Charles, Missouri.
