Annie Kassongo is in her first season as women’s basketball assistant coach.

Kassongo returns to Barton from a four-year stint at Northwest Kansas Technical College where she spent two years as assistant before moving into the head coach position.

A former Cougar from the 2008-10 seasons, Kassongo went on to Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma City receiving her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2013 before embarking on a 7-year professional career abroad.

While in college, the Geneva, Switzerland, native left her mark on the record books at both Barton and SNU. A prolific shot-blocker, Kassongo still holds Barton records in most shot block in a game (9), with two additional games of eight blocks, and single season (133). A member of the Cougars’ 2009 Conference Championship team, Kassongo land 2nd team All-KJCCC honors in her sophomore season.

Kassongo continued her in the paint prowess at SNU, setting the program single game record of 7 blocks her junior year before surpassing it with a 10 block effort while adding 14 points and 12 rebound for a triple-double performance in her final year. Earning honorable mention All-GAC honors, Kassongo helped her squad to the 2013 NCCAA title in capping her collegiate career landing on the All-Tournament team.

Abroad, Kassongo’s professional career included time in Spain, Romania, United Kingdom, France, and her homeland Switzerland, as well as, represented her country in FIBA European competitions at the senior and youth levels.
