Barton's Turney and Gildyard named to All-Region VI squad.
Richelle Turney and Mavrick Gildyard of the Barton Community College basketball women's and basketball teams have been each named to the 2nd team of the All-Region VI Division I post-season awards.
RICHELLE TURNEY
Turney finished the season leading the Cougars in scoring at 15.0 points per game, eighth best in the league. The 5'10" guard ranked among the top four within the squad in six different categories, connecting on a third best 42.2% from the field including an eighth league best 35.3% from beyond the arc.
Earning the conference player of the week award in the second week of the season, Turney later posted a career high 32 point performance in a January 11th road victory at Allen Community College. Reaching double figures in 26 of 31 games, Turney eclipsed the twenty-point plateau during the season on eight separate occasions.
Adding to her season resume, Turney was selected onto the Region VI All-Tournament Team joining teammates Vanessa Oduah and Queen Ulabo. Missing the Cougar's opening round due to illness, Turney put up 14.3 per contest including knocking down 6-of-12 from behind the arc in shooting 47.9% overall from the floor.
MAVERICK GILDYARD
Gildyard was solid in all phases of the game for the Cougars, averaging a team third best 11.5 points per game on 50.8% shooting from the field (128-of-252) and a solid 70.7% from the free throw line (70-of-99). The 6'6" forward averaged a team second best 5.7 rebounds and third most minutes at 23.4 per contest.
Gildyard hauled down ten or more rebounds in six of the Cougars' games, posting a team high three double-doubles.
Helping the Cougars advance in the region playoffs with a first round career high twenty-five points, Gildyard wrapped up his career just missing his fourth double-double with a 17 point, 9 rebound performance to earn All-Region VI Tournament honors, as well as, the season's final conference weekly honor.
