Ulabo's twenty rebounds help Barton women secure third place, Cougars host Region VI first round on Wednesday #GoBarton

A nine point second quarter difference Saturday evening provided the margin needed as the Barton Community College women's basketball team grinded out a 64-56 victory over Garden City Community College on sophomore night at the Barton Gym.

The victory ensured the Cougars a tie for third place of the Jayhawk West at 11-10 in concluding the regular season at 14-15. Garden City wraps up the regular season at 11-19 finishing in seventh place of the West at 6-15.

Next up is post-season with Barton earning the tie-breaker for the third spot out of the West, seeded 6th for the Region VI Tournament, to earn a home first round playoff game. The Cougars will host 11th seeded Cloud County Community College (4-16, 9-21) on Wednesday with free admission granted for the 5:30 p.m. tip-off.  Should Barton win, the Cougars advance to Dodge City's United Wireless Arena in Saturday's 5:00 p.m. game against the winner of 3rd seeded Coffeyville versus 14th seed Garden City.

Region VI Playoff Information

Barton women's basketball player Queen Ulabo goes up for a shot Queen Ulabo led the Cougars with an impact on the program record book hauling down twenty rebounds on the night to tie for fifth best single game effort. Adding seventeen points, Ulabo nearly had the double-double effort on the offensive glass alone in grabbing nine of her boards to post her seventh double figure totals in the two categories on the season. Richelle Turney chalked up fifteen on the night as did Vanessa Oduah coming off the bench, sinking 9-of-12 from the charity stripe and dishing out seven assists. Tiffany Dortland also gave Barton solid bench production with four steals and seven rebounds helping Barton to a seventeen rebound edge.

Donetria McGee grabbed a team high eight rebounds with fifteen points while Jaleah Bellany finished with twelve as the lone Broncbusters to reach double figures. Dasja Ross dished out a team high six assists and tied Alyssa Boyce with four steals.
