A frigid night of shooting Wednesday at the Sports Arena sent the Barton Community College women's basketball team to 67-43 loss at No. 8 Hutchinson Community College.

Despite the loss, Barton remains in third place of the Jayhawk West at 7-6, sliding to 11-11 on the year as Hutchinson's sixth straight victory keeps the Blue Dragons on the doorstep of the conference race at 12-1 improving to 20-2 overall.

Barton will look to end its two game skid to ranked opponents on Saturday as the Cougars travel to Garden City Community College for a 2:00 p.m. afternoon tip.

Queen Ulabo put the Cougars on the board ninety seconds into the contest but it would be the last Barton field goal until 4:32 left in the second period as Richelle Turney's three-pointer ended the stretch closing the then deficit to 31-10.

Turney would drill another triple on Barton's next possession, with Ulabo and Oduah adding a pair of field goals later as the Cougars shot just 13.8% in the first twenty minutes in staring up at a 37-15 hole going to the locker room.

After shooting 45% in the first half, Hutchinson joined Barton in the array of misses in the final two periods with each team shooting just 34%.

The Cougars outscored the Blue Dragons 14-12 in the third period, with Hutchinson winning the final frame by four for their 22nd straight win in the series.

Turney was the lone Cougar in double figures as the squad suffered a season low point total and 24.1% shooting night, scoring fifteen points while missing a double-double in collecting nine rebounds. Hannah Valentine came off the bench with 2-of-3 shooting from deep to add eight points in helping the Cougars to a twelve point edge from the non-starters.

All five Blue Dragon starters reached double figures with Tor'e Alford leading the team with sixteen points and three assists. Lauryn Mapusua added fifteen with Makayla Vannett contributing ten. Two Blue Dragons pulled down eleven rebounds each for a double-double night with Brookly Betham scoring twelve while reigning conference player of the week Abby Ogle putting ten on the scoreboard to go along with six steals.
