Barton women knock off Coffeyville to snap slide #GoBarton

Barton women's basketball player Hannah Valentine goes up for a layup

The Barton Community College women's basketball team snapped a four game losing streak as the Cougars knocked off Coffeyville Community College 69-66 Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.

Picking up their first conference win of the season, Barton evens their mark at 1-1 while improving to 5-6 on the year. Coffeyville drops to 1-2 in league play in slipping to 11-2 on the season. Barton's next contest comes Saturday as the Cougars test the conference road with a 4:00 p.m. tip at Independence Community College.

Vanessa Oduah's near double-double led Barton with eighteen points as the point guard hauled down a team leading nine rebounds and four steals. Hannah Valentine produced big off the bench with fifteen points in seventeen minutes of action with Richelle Turney adding ten to round out the double-digit scorers.

Alana Kramer was the lone Red Raven into double figures scoring thirteen points while Kailyn Lay, Julia Calafell, and Faith Simpson each contributed nine. Coffeyville led by three on boards in part to Tynica Gilmore's eleven, four on the offensive glass, while Lay dished out a game high four assists.

The contest couldn't have been anymore close on the scoreboard and the stat sheet, as the teams battled to 19-all tie after the first ten minutes with Barton grabbing a two point advantage in the second frame to lead into the locker rooms.

Following another gridlocked third quarter, Barton added another point to their differential by sinking 12-of-15 from the charity stripe including a 4-of-5 clutch shooting from Queen Ulabo in scoring six of her nine points on the evening.
