Short-handed Barton women outgunned at undefeated Redlands #GoBarton

Barton women's basketball player Vanessa Oduah tries to put up a shot between Redlands defenders

The second time wasn't the charm as a short-handed Barton Community College women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season to Redlands Community College as the maroon clad Cougars protected their home court Friday evening 68-53 in El Reno, Oklahoma.

The loss concludes a two game road stretch before conference play as Barton slips to 4-5 on the year while Redlands stays undefeated improving to 10-0 on the year.

Barton has the week off to prepare and enjoy the holiday break before turning its sights on its conference opener next Saturday in hosting nationally receiving votes Cowley College in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

Having dropped a two-point decision to Redlands in the season opener at the Barton Gym, the Cougars were immediately behind the eight-ball in not only playing without two regular starters but digging an early eleven point first quarter hole.

Redlands' 15-4 start to the quarter added ten more to the total in leading the Cougars 25-10 at the end of the frame.

Barton cut into the deficit in finding a little offensive groove in the second quarter to outscore Redlands 14-8, gaining a little momentum to the locker room trailing 33-24.

Slicing the margin to eight on a 5-2 spurt to begin the third, Redlands closed out the rest of the frame 12-4 in stretching the lead to fifteen at 49-33.

Barton made some big plays on both ends of the court early in the fourth with D'Shonda Hunt converting a hoop-n-harm, along with three-pointers from Tiffany Dortland and Katelynn Sanger but Redlands had the immediate answer each occasion to hold off a big charge.

Vanessa Oduah's career high seventeen points led just two Cougars reaching double-figures as Hunt matched a career high with twelve points, eight coming in first half action. Sanger contributed a new career high seven points, Dortland drained a pair of long range shots for six points, while reigning conference player of week Queen Ulabo was held to just five points.
