Barton women set school records in rout

The Barton Community College women's basketball team nearly rewrote the history book Wednesday night at the Barton Gym defeating the junior varsity squad of Sterling College 131-30.  Racing out to 43-6 first quarter lead, the Lady Cougars would go on to rewrite three single game school team records most notably for most points scored and margin of victory.  Improving to 6-2 with its fifth straight win, Barton will return to its home court in two days for a 5:30 p.m. game Friday against the junior varsity squad from Bethany College before taking a week off preparing for the Best Western Booster Club Classic Thanksgiving Classic being held November 27-28.  

With the bench outscoring the starters by twenty-three points, all but one of the Lady Cougars played more than thirteen minutes with each scoring six or more points.  Leading six players in double figures was the reemergence of sophomore Katrina Roenfeldt.  Having missed the previous seven games due to a preseason injury, Roenfeldt dropped eighteen in the first half finishing with twenty-two points on 9-of-13 from the field including 4-of-8 from behind the arc.

Knocking down the record setting 131st point of the night off a baseline trey from Roenfeldt, Tyanna Warren set a new career high scoring sixteen points on 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.  Kilee Harris also added sixteen with a team high seven steals while tying three others for the team lead of five assists. 

Coming off the bench point guard Dominique Baker was solid from long range burying 2-of-3 for fourteen points joining Harris in assists while also collecting five steals.  Megan Jirak added twelve and a team high eight rebounds while reserve McKinna Kraus was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field finishing with ten points.

Breece Dreiling led the Lady Warriors with fourteen points being joined by Anna Adamyk for team high honors with seven rebounds each.  

The Lady Cougars shot 62.1% from the field on the night going 58-of-98 setting a new school record for most field goals made.  The accomplishment broke the previous fifty-five made field goals on November 19, 1999, against Air Force Prep while the 131 points scored surpassed the 130 points scored in that same game.

The 101 point margin of victory shattered two previous eighty-nine point margins, most recently achieved on November 4, 2006, in a 124-35 win over the junior varsity squad from Tabor College junior varsity and the February 12, 1983, defeat of Seward County Community College.
