Lady Cougars outmatched by twenty-three at No. 1 Hutchinson

The second meeting with nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College resulted in much the same results as the first time as the Barton Community College women's basketball team was outmatched 63-40 by the No. 1 ranked Blue Dragons.   After winning the first two games of a tough four-game seven day stretch, Barton drops its second straight contest to fall to 6-7 in conference play and 16-9 overall.  Winning its 115th straight home game and 32nd consecutive Jayhawk West contest, Hutchinson improves to 12-0 and 26-0.  The Lady Cougars will get a much needed week's rest before hosting Colby Community College at 5:30 p.m. on Homecoming festivity night taking place on Wednesday, February 18.

Hutchinson jumped on the Cougars with nine straight points to begin the contest and closed the first half with a 6-0 run to lead at the break 37-12.  The Blue Dragons stretched the lead out to thirty-one eight minutes into the second frame but a 10-2 six minute stretch by the Cougars cut the deficit down to twenty-three.  Barton managed to shave off another point but it was the closest the Lady Cougars would come in dropping their twelfth straight game to Hutchinson.

Despite holding the Blue Dragons to a season low 34.3% shooting percentage, Barton suffered through its own woes from the field being held to only 25.9%.

Katrina Roenfeldt was the lone Lady Cougar to reach double figures finishing with twelve points.  Phikala Anthony, the team's leading scorer on the season, was held to six points after being limited to seven points the first time the teams met at the Barton Gym.  Freshman Kilee Harris came off the bench to lead the Lady Cougars in rebounds with eight while Indiah Cauley led in assists with four and Dominique Baker's five steals led a fourteen steal night by the Lady Cougars.

Cynthia Petke posted her 12th double-double of the season with nineteen points and thirteen rebounds to lead three Blue Dragons in double figures.  The versatile Kalani Purcell just missed a triple-double recording her team-high eighteenth double-double of the season and thirty-sixth of her career with eleven points and ten rebounds while dishing out nine assists.  Clemence LeFebvre also had a solid night scoring fifteen points and eight rebounds while Alyx Bloom led in steals with five.
