Quick start propels Barton women to twenty point win at Garden City

The Barton Community College women's basketball team got off to a great start Saturday night at the Perryman Athletic Complex pulling away for a 66-46 win at Garden City Community College.  Barton solidifies its fourth spot in the standings improving to 6-5 in Jayhawk West play and 16-7 overall while sending the Lady Busters to 3-8 and 12-13.  With only a full day's rest, Barton will have a short turnaround before facing Butler Community College on Monday at 5:30 p.m.  The Lady Cougars will then conclude their tough three-game five-day stretch with a Wednesday trip to top ranked Hutchinson Community College.

Revenging a disappointing five-point loss to the Broncbusters earlier in the conference season at the Barton Gym, the Lady Cougars jumped out to a 13-1 lead with Garden City trimming the deficit to eight but a 13-0 run building the first half lead out to twenty one was the dagger.  The Broncbusters did manage to come within eleven by halftime but Barton opened up second half action with the first four points to extend the lead.  Garden City drew to within nine a couple of times but an and-1 opportunity by McKinna Kraus at the midway point quickly took the lead back out to twelve which keyed an 8-0 run to put the game away.

Two Lady Cougars reached double-figures led by Phikala Anthony's twenty-three points, the twenty-first game this season the sophomore has reached double figures.  After tying a career high eleven points in Wednesday's victory, Kraus set a new career high scoring thirteen points.  Having a twelve rebound advantage on the night, four players grabbed six or more rebounds led by Anthony's nine boards while Indiah Cauley dished out a team high five assists.

Loysha Morris was the lone Garden City player in double figures finishing with eighteen while Taleah Williams and Tionnia Mckee tied for team high honors with five rebounds each.
