Lady Cougar basketball falls to No. 11 Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in season opener

Knocking off a ranked opponent to begin last season, the Barton Community College women's basketball team's bid to repeat the success fell short Friday night at the Best Western Pizza Hut Classic dropping a 73-59 contest to No. 11 Northern Oklahoma College-Enid.  Having opened the last three seasons against a ranked opponent, a key early stretch turned momentum Barton couldn't fully recover from.   The Lady Cougars will next play North Central Missouri College in the 5:30 p.m. game Saturday while Northern Oklahoma will take on Dodge City Community College in the 1:00 p.m. game.

Despite saddled with foul troubles and playing only eleven minutes, freshman Katrina Roenfeldt was dialed in early from long distance knocking down 3-of-3 from behind the arc getting Barton out to an 11-2 lead just three minutes into the contest.  Picking up her second foul of the half just ten seconds earlier, the tide of the game changed as NOC took advantage of the absence in the next three minutes scoring thirteen unanswered points to grab a 15-11 advantage.  The Lady Cougars managed to regain the lead at 24-21 with 7:41 to play on 4-4 free throw shooting from freshmen Kilee Harris and Keneisha Winfrey but it was the last lead for the home team the rest of the way.

Roenfeldt and Phikala Anthony were the lone Lady Cougars to reach double figures scoring eleven each.  Sophomore Ciera Lampe contributed nine points and led Barton with five rebounds while Winfrey led in assists with three.

Breck Clark led three NOC players in double-digits with twenty-four on 6-10 shooting from the floor and 11-13 from the charity stripe.  Gabbie Parsons came off the bench to score thirteen on 5-10 shooting while Alexis Hill contributed ten and led the Jets with six rebounds and four steals.

In the first game of the Best Western and Pizza Hut Classic, Dodge City Community College opened their season with a 65-55 victory over North Central Missouri College.  Azaria Nave was the lone Conquistador in double figure scoring dropping sixteen while dishing out a team high six assists.  Johlicia Williams came off the bench to grab a team high ten rebounds, nine on the defensive glass.

Imani White matched game high scoring honors with sixteen while also leading North Central in rebounds with eight and assists with seven to go along with two steals.

In day two of the Classic, Dodge City will take on NOC in the 1:00 p.m. game while North Central will take on Barton in the 5:30 p.m. game.
