Lady Cougars rally falls short in 60-59 loss at Cowley College

Trailing most of the game Saturday night in Arkansas City, the Barton Community College women's basketball team's rally came up one-point shy in falling 60-59 to Cowley College.  The Lady Cougars trailed by ten with five minutes to play then used a 12-4 run in the next three minutes to tie it at 57.  After Cowley took a two point lead with twenty-six seconds remaining, Ashton Bruner knocked down a long two-pointer off an inbound pass just inside the arc to tie it again with 11.6 seconds.  Moving the ball up the floor the Lady Tigers' Brylee New drove to the basket to draw a foul with only 1.6 seconds remaining.  After New knocked down the second of two free throws, Barton was unable to get off a shot thus ending a modest three-game winning streak.  The Lady Cougars drop to 12-4 on the season while national receiving votes Cowley improves to 12-4 on the season.  Barton will begin Jayhawk Conference play at home on Saturday January 11 as the Cougars host Pratt Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at the Barton Gym.

Cheyenne Hedrington led Barton with fourteen points while Ashton Bruner recorded her fourth double-double of the season scoring thirteen points and grabbing twelve rebounds.  Mariana Lambert scored thirteen while Kailai Brantner led Barton with seven assists.

Emilie Gronas led only two Cowley players in double digits scoring twenty-four points including a huge eight foot baseline fade-away late in the shot clock giving Cowley a 6-58 lead with twenty-six seconds left.  Kourtney Steel scored twelve while Erica Olerich led in rebounding with seven.
