Barton falls at Garden; hosts Butler Saturday
The Barton Community College women's basketball team was not able to overcome a late 1st half run by Garden City Wednesday night, losing the Jayhawk West contest to the Broncbusters, 75-54 at the Perryman Athletic Complex in Garden. Garden closed the opening half on a 22-9 run on its way to the win. Barton fell to 5-7 in West play with the loss and 12-13 overall. Garden City it now 8-3 in the West and 12-13 overall. The Cougars will host Butler for a battle for 5th in the West Saturday with a 6 pm tip off on Homecoming Night at the Barton Gym.

Highlights
Barton battle with Broncbusters much of the 1st half of action as the two teams struggled to score on each other. Garden held a 14-11 lead with 7 minutes to play in half. That is when the Busters closed on the 22-9 run, started by a 9-0 spurt for a 23-11 lead. By halftime, Garden had built a 36-20 advantage on the Cougars.

Barton was able to whittle the lead down to 8 points with 7 minutes to play in the contest, but Garden responded with a quick 6-0 run that pushed it back to 14 points. Barton would not get it back to single digits the rest of the way.

Barton was led in the contest by Alisha Fanshier with 19 points. She was the only Cougars to reach double figures in the win. Abbey McKenzie scored 9 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Marisela Rodriguez led the Broncbusters with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cougars can take a big step toward 5th place in the West and the No. 5 seed from the West in the upcoming Region VI tournament with a win over Butler Saturday. Butler is currently in 6th with a 4-7 West mark. Barton is 5th at 5-7 and already owns a win over the Grizzlies in El Dorado earlier this year. Tip is set for 6 pm.
