Cougars earn 87-60 win over Dodge; No. 5 Cloud County next on the road
The Barton County Community College women's basketball team took care of business Wednesday night at the Barton County Gym, rolling to an 87-60 win over Dodge City in Jayhawk West action. The win moved Barton to 9-1 in the West with road games at No. 5 ranked Cloud County and No. 3 Seward County next for the Cougars. Barton struggled during the opening half of action but picked up its play in the 2nd half to earn the win. Barton is now 21-3 overall this year. Dodge fell to 2-8 in the West and 8-16 overall on the season. The Cougars will visit 21-2 (7-2 in West) Cloud in Concordia Saturday then travel to 24-0 (10-0) Seward Wednesday.

Highlights
Barton led just 36-30 at halftime thanks in large part to 13 1st half turnovers by the Cougasr and a 12-of-37 effort from the field. The Cougars did force Dodge into 13 1st half turnovers, which resulted in 19 Barton points.

The Cougars came out in the 2nd half on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 46-30. Barton never led by less than double digits the rest of the way. Dodge did cut the lead to 52-40 with 13 minutes to play but the Cougars answered with a 7-0 run for a 59-40 lead and cruised to the win from there. The biggest lead of the game came at 87-56.

Barton put 6 players in double figures, led by Ipek Turkylimaz with 16 points. Close behind at 14 points were DePrice Taylor and Gwen Edwards while Andrea Barber added 13. Inga Muciniece (11) and LaToya Jackson (10) rounded out the double figures scorers for Barton. Edwards also had 10 rebounds to record her 2nd double-double of the season. Patrice McKenzie scored 23 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Dodge.

The Cougars will have 4 of its final 6 on the road – 4 of the next 5 – starting with a trip to Concordia.
