Helping the Cougars to a conference opening sweep, Jessica Morgan of the Barton Community College softball team was named the week five KJCCC Division I Pitcher of the Week.
Morgan set the tone in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, sending the Broncbusters down in order in each of the first four innings including a 1-2-3 fourth frame freezing all three batters on the strikeout looking. Morgan struck out six while walking none in her five innings as Garden City's lone run came in the fifth and final inning on NJCAA 2nd team All-American's Nya Chacon's leadoff homerun for her 5th of the year. The Broncbusters second and final hit came one batter later but the Cougar defense threw out the extra base attempt as Morgan faced one above the minimum.
Barton won 10-2 in six innings of the opener with Morgan's 12-1 fifth inning victory improving the freshman to 4-2 on the season.
The Cougars (8-4) will next head to Seward County Community College (9-5) on Wednesday for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader before hosting Pratt Community College on Saturday.
