The Barton Community College softball team opened up play in the BUCO Bash held in El Dorado, Kansas, with a 6-5 victory over Northern Oklahoma College-Enid. The Lady Cougars scored two in every other inning to lead by five but had to hold off a late NOC rally to earn the win. Improving to 20-10 on the season, Barton will next play Jefferson College to wrap up play on Saturday before playing another two games on Sunday versus North Central Texas College and Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.
The heart of the lineup did the bulk of the damage as the trio of Brianna Ward, Erica Harper, and Kylie Everill were a combined 6-for-11. Harper, the reigning conference player of the week, led the way going 2-for-3 with a first inning double giving Barton a two-run first inning lead. Ward's first of two doubles kickstarted the Lady Cougars two-run third inning while back-to-back homeruns by Harper and Everill increased the lead to 6-1 in the fifth.
Holly Posegate earned the win working the last 4.2 innings relieving Taylor Bugner in the second.
