The Barton County Community College softball team salvaged what turned out to the be the final 2 games of a 6-game, 4-day stretch. Barton was also to play today at Garden for 8 games in 5 days, but weather pushed that contest back for a 2nd time. The Cougars won 10-0 and 13-0 Wednesday at Cougar Fields in Great Bend to capture the final 2 games of the stretch after losing doubleheaders to Butler and at Hutchinson. The Cougars win over Cloud were both Region VI and Jayhawk West games. Barton is now 19-23 overall on the season and 7-7 in Region VI play. That is currently 4th place among the 7 teams that play at the NJCAA Division I level. The Cougars are now 4-6 in the West, tied for 5th.

Highlights
Barton made it 5-for-5 against Cloud County this season – all by way of the shutout. Barton won 10-0 and 13-0 Wednesday at Cougar Fields in 5-inning contests. The Cougars scored 9 times in the opening and added a 2nd run in the 2nd inning for the 10-0 win in the opener. Barton scored 6 in the 1st and 5 in the 2nd in the nightcap on its way to a 13-0 blanking of the 1-26 Thunderbirds.

The Cougars were as fortunate Sunday when the No. 9 ranked Butler Grizzlies came to Great Bend. Butler did the blanking, shutting out Barton 8-0 and 7-0. Barton did not get a hit in the opening game and garnered only 3 in the 2nd game. Barton also lost a pair in Hutchinson Tuesday in 5 innings, falling 12-4 and 13-5 to the Blue Dragon in Jayhawk West play.

Barton will have to make up the Garden City canceled today – originally slated for April 11 before the April 29 deadline. The Cougars already have 4 double headers slated – all Region VI games – prior to that date in what will be a busy conclusion to the regular season before the Region VI tournament at Wichita May 2-4.
