Barton tennis teams finish top ten in final rankings #GoBarton

The Barton Community College tennis squads finished in the top ten with six combined individuals and another pair of doubles tandems cracking the rankings.

The Cougar men landed in the No. 8 spot of the top twenty-five Oracle/ITA NJCAA Men's National Team Rankings with the women placing 10th.  A 9th place finish was within grasp, but the Lady Cougars fell 6-3 to 9th ranked North Central Texas College on February 15th playing without Barton's top singles player Alexandra Abyasova.

Oswaldo Cano led a pair of Cougars in the top fifty, ranking 15th overall and 4th in Region III. Sebastian Pino checked in at the 40th spot and 13th in Region.

On the women's side, Abyasova finished 12th in the nationals rankings and 3rd in Region III with a narrow supertie loss to 2nd ranked Emelie Schwarte of Tyler Junior College. 

Natsuki Nishimura was also a victim of a supertie loss to a Tyler player in 10th ranked Helena Jansen, placed four spots behind Abysavo in the 16th overall position and 5th best in Region III

Sophomores Mariane Lima and Claudia Sumaia also ranked in the top fifty, Lima in the 29th spot and 7th best in Region III while Sumaia, who knocked off the nation's 20th ranked player, finished in the 36th overall slot in 9th in the region.

Three Cougars were out of the nation's top fifty but landed in the Region III rankings with Samrakshyak Bajracharya in 20th, Octavio Carrasco in 22nd, and on the women's side Malena Hernandez ranking 22nd. 

In the top twenty-five doubles rankings, Abyasova and Nisimura ranked 12th in the overall rankings and 3rd best in Region III while Cano and Pino landed in the 18th spot of the men's rankings and 6th best in region. 

A trio of doubles teams missed the top twenty-five but were solid in the tough Region III standings. On the women's side Sumaia and Hernandez ranked 8th with Lima and Sara Martin in the 10th spot. For the Cougar men, Bajracharya and Carrasco ranked as the 14th best region tandem.
