The Barton Community College men's tennis team closed out the fall portion of the season on a high note as the Cougars competed at the weekend's Collin College Fall Cougar Open held in Plano, Texas.

A pair of Cougars reached the championship match of their respective flight bracket with Sebastian Pino flying notching four victories claiming the Flight 2 title. Pino began the tournament with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Southwest's University's Jake Trejo before surviving a three-set comeback thriller over Texas A&M-Texarkana's Kevin Tsati-Onla 4-6, 6-4, and 10-5. In the semifinals against fourth seeded Martin Abamu of New Mexico Military Institute, Pino made short work needing just two sets 6-1, 6-3 advancing to the finals. Unranked in the seedings, Pino took down the third seeded Benji Finet of Southeast Oklahoma with another straight set win, taking the first in a tiebreak 7-6 (4) before hammering out a 6-1 clincher to earning the sophomore's first individual title of the season.

Oswaldo Cano continued his strong fall season, rattling off a trio of victories in the top flight to fall shy of the title 7-6 (5), 6-1 to Savan Chhabra of Abiline Christian University in the championship. Cano's path took down Alejandro Oviedo of TAMUT 6-4, 6-3, before outlasting the tournament No. 2 seed Christopher Bulus of New Mexico Military Institute 13-11 after the duo split dominating 6-1 and 6-0 set scores. The final hurdler to the championship was taking on the host's Adam O'Shannessy of Collin in earning a hard fought 6-2, 7-6(5) victory.

Third seed Octavio Carrasco reached the 3rd Flight semifinals with relative ease before running into top seeded Danrich Krueger of SE Oklahoma, dropping the first set 6-2 but recovering in the second 6-4 to force the tiebreak in coming up short 10-8.

Tom Letecheur was also in the No. 3 Flight, bounced to the consolation by fourth seeded Jason Roberts of SE Oklahoma in the opening round 6-2, 6-2, but recovered with an 8-1 and 9-2 win before falling 9-7 to Nick Boquet of UT-Dallas in the consolation finals.

Third seeded Arthur Angles took care of this No. 4 Flight opening round in 6-2, 6-0 fashion over USW's Daymon Coyazo but was derailed by the flight's eventual champion as Collin's Valentin Rivadeo prevailed 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinal match

In Flight 1 doubles, Angles and Carrasco earned an 8-6 opening round victory over the unattached duo Quentin Scharfenber and Abhi Venkatachalam before falling in the quarterfinals to second seeded Benji Finet and Danrich Kreuger of Southeast Oklahoma 8-6.

Cougar teammates Cano and Pino had the unlucky opening round draw with the top seed, nearly pulling the upset but coming up on the short end of a 9-7 score to the New Mexico Military Institute tandem of Bulus and Emanuel Mallya. The pair would default their consolation quarterfinals, instead turning focus to their respective deep runs on the singles brackets.
