The Barton Community College men's tennis teams boasted champions in both singles and doubles competition at the conclusion of the Cougar Fall Invitational held at Collin College in Plano, Texas, this past weekend.
In Flight 1 singles action Oswaldo Cano and teammate Sebastian Pino breezed into the championship tilt setting up an all-Barton final where Cano earned the crown with a 6-1, 7-6(4) score.
Flight 3 singles Octavio Carrasco and Flight 4 singles Victor Pestana reached the finals in their respective brackets before being upended in the title bout.
Freshman Arthur Angles reached the semifinals before running into runner-up Garrett Blair 7-6(2), 6-4 in Flight 2 singles. Angles leaped back defeating Andre Guedes De Melo in two sets 6-0, 6-3 bringing home a third place finish.
Despite slipping in the quarterfinals Felipe Serrate recovered on the back side falling just shy of a consolation finals victory 7-6(4), 6-0, to Alex Dos Santos.
The duo of Cano and Pino rode to the Flight 1 doubles championship title with victories over Blair/De La Fuente 8-4, and Steffes/Vaithianathan 8-6. Teammates Angles and Tom Letecheur bounced back from an opening loss in Flight 1 doubles securing a consolation title by default.
Jarrett Bowman and Felipe Serrate fell just short of a backside title slipping in the consolation finals 8-2 to Dehart/Zobel.
Barton's next action comes September 27 for two days of competition in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
