Barton Women's swimming defeats Iowa Central; Cougar men drop dual #GoBarton

Hosting the first of three home meets on the season, the Barton Community College swimming programs took on Iowa Central Community College Saturday morning inside the Barton Pool.

The home waves presented mixed results for the pair of Cougar teams with the women defeating the Tritons 102-91 while the Barton men fell on the wrong side dropping a 144-61 result.

"It was a great learning experience for our team and gave us a good idea on what adjustments we need to work on heading into the key part of our season", said head coach Matt Gilbert.

Men's Recap
The Barton men pieced together six runner-up finishes over the 11-events led by Enzo Vogt da Silva's pair of second place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:40.75) and 500-yard freestyle (4:56.53).

Of the other four runner-up finishes, two individuals earned silvers with Dominik Strba in the 400-yard medley (4:30.65) and Jonathan Beers in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.94).

The Cougars other two-second place finishes came in the relays with a 3:42.28 in the 400-yard medley and a 1:27.13 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Women's Recap
On the women's side, the Lady Cougars claimed just three victories on the day with Olivia Kerr earning the lone individual title while the other two would come in the team events.

Barton would jump out to a solid start claiming the mornings opening event in the 400-yard medley relay with Silvana Jacquez Viveros, Dominique Cos, Linda Franco and Mikwena Lierman clocking a 4:21.83.

Just two events later Kerr added the squads second victory of the morning in the 200-yard freestyle swimming to a new season best stoppage of 2:05.73 edging out Jacquez runner-up finish of 2:08.01.

Lierman, Kerr and Franco would team up with Caroline Tipton in the final event of the day claiming the second relay gold for the Cougars in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.86.

Barton's next meet comes this weekend at the Kansas Collegiate Showcase held Friday and Saturday in Maize, KS.
