Cougar swimming wraps up regular season at Mid-West Championship; Sights set on NJCAA Championships #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's swimming team wrapped up the regular season this past weekend at the Mid-West Championship held in Davenport, IA. The Cougars put in a strong effort coming away with an individual title and twenty-four personal bests. Entering just eight competitors in the weekend event, the Cougars managed a fourth showing in the five team field tallying 195 points as host school St. Ambrose claimed the team title tallying 1135 points.

Barton will begin their two week preparation for the NJCAA Championships held March 4-7 in Fort Pierce, FL.

Managing nine top-ten finishes over the course of the weekend the Cougars pieced together two fourth place showings in the 200 Medley Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay.

Freshman Chris Sprenger paved the waves claiming the lone Barton title in the 200 butterfly timing a personal best and seventh fastest mark in the program at 2:00.76. 

Earning Barton's second highest individual showing, freshman Clayton Brown clocked a new personal best in the 200 backstroke at 2:07.83, earning with a fifth place performance.

Highlighting the weekend six different Cougars swam to new personal bests in the 100 freestyle as Gabriel Ozanne notched a tenth place finish, while timing the tenth fastest in program history at 49.10. Silas Steinert, Asa Unruh, Braden Augustine, and Clayton Brown each earned new personal bests in the event respectively.
