The Barton Community College swimming program had another impressive day in the pool of the early season as the Cougars competed Friday in the augural Sunflower Showdown held at Topeka's Capitol Federal Natatorium.

Barton's next meet action comes next Friday in Fremont, Nebraska, with the Cougars taking on Midland University and Sterling College in a 2:00 p.m. start.

The Barton men earned all but three of the Cougars' forty-four Top-5 placings to dominate the one-day event including ten first place finishes.

"We've had couple weeks of intense training," said Head Coach Jonathan Reeder. "It's been brutal but I'm very pleased with how we swam and competed against some very good teams."

Albert Kasprzyk helped fill the hardware box with three of the golds, capturing both the 200 freestyle and 100 fly, to go along with the 200 medley relay title shared with tandem mates Aidan Gantenbein, Ryan Downing, and David Garcia.

The Cougars entered six medley relay teams, taking the first five and seventh spots of the ten team 200 medley entry event while also taking the top four and sixth place of the 200 freestyle variety.

Garcia, who captured the 50 freestyle, and Downing, who won the 200 IM, added another relay gold to their day helping the Cougars to the 200 free relay title teaming with Carlon McClerkin and Isaac Panzer. McClerkin was also a multi-event winner as his top 100 freestyle time beat out fellow team member Leonard-Andrei Olaru by .05 seconds.

Other first placers for the Cougars were Kacper Mayerberg (500 freestyle), Mateusz Lukaszczyk (100 backstroke), and Ergi Veli (100 breaststroke).

The women had a battle for the runner-up spot in the 100 freestyle as Elizabeth Spitz edged out freshman Fanny Courbot by .05 seconds. Courbot would pick up another top five finish in the 100 breaststroke and help the Cougars to a fifth place finish in the 200 medley relay joining forces with McKayla Siemiller, Lizbeth Candanedo, and Sierra Williams.

No team scores were compiled as competition included Kansas Swimming, University of Saint Mary, Steling College, and Tabor College.
