Barton swimming grabs eight golds in season opener #GoBarton

Although no team scores were tallied in the Barton Community College swim team's season opener this past weekend in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the Sam Freas Invitational.

The women's squad came away with three first place finishes, being led by sophomore McKayla Siemiller's trio of golds in the one day meet. The defending 50 backstroke NJCAA National Champion won each of her two individual events, the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, and added a relay gold in getting the 200 medley off to a fast start with Fanny Courbet, Lizbeth Candanedo, and Sierra Williams finishing off the race to win by just shy of a six second gap.

The Cougar men earned five individual crowns with Ryan Downing having an impressive collegiate debut capturing both 100 varieties of the breaststroke and fly. Sophomore David Garcia beat out forty-eight other 50 freestyle entrants in taking the gold sprint with freshmen Chris Sprenger and Nikolas Loannides winning the 200 IM and 500 freestyle respectively.

Barton's next meet is closer to home as the Cougars travel to Topeka on October 4th participating in the Sunflower Showdown.
