Sepulveda leads Jayhawk West Champions to eight men's soccer post-season honors #GoBarton

Barton men's soccer post-season award winners

Eight members of the Barton Community College men's soccer team earned post-season honors with four landing on the All-Region VI second team.

Freshmen Ricardo Sepulveda garnered the Jayhawk West's Defensive Player of the Year as two Cougars landed on the first team with five landing on the second team. In the region voting Barton received one All-Region VI first team nod with an additional three more Cougars earning regional second team distinction.

Ranked No. 14 in the final NJCAA Division I poll, the selections under first year Head Coach Jordan Rideout helped lead Barton to the program's 10th Jayhawk West crown with an 8-2 conference mark completing the season 11-3-1.

Sepulveda and fellow freshman Gabrielle Privitera led the selections as the pair bookended the pitch, Sepulveda helping captain one of the nation's top ranked defensive lines of denial with Privitera keying the conference's top ranked offensive unit.

Ricardo Sepulveda
Sepulveda dished out three assists through the course of the season but his big contribution came within the defensive effort in being named the program's second straight and fourth overall defensive MVP. Landing on the second team of the All-Region VI squad, Sepulveda was a key member of a stout defensive crew as the Cougars led the conference in goal stoppers while ranking second overall in the nation.

Adding 2nd team all-conference selections freshman Pedro Maximiano and sophomore goalkeeper Marco Seyfert, the Cougars surrendered just seven goals all season. Following three coming in the first two games, Barton went on lockdown mode the rest of the season as opponents struggled to score goals, let alone even get shots launched, as the Cougars rattled off nine consecutive shutouts in a program best ever 929:01 minutes of keeping opponents scoreless.

Gabrielle Privitera
Privitera not only broke down defenses for a conference fifth most 14 goals but set up a multitude of scoring opportunities for his teammates. Adding first team All-Region VI honors to his collegiate debut season, Privitera dished out a program sixth most and Region VI best eleven assists to finish second overall in points scored with 39. Privitera made an immediate splash on the pitch, scoring a goal and dishing out two assists including the game winner in his collegiate debut to begin a streak of eight straight games of either a goal or assist. Within the mix came his first collegiate hat trick, rattling the nets three times in the third game of the season to join a crowded list in program history to accomplish the feat. An eight point game against Hesston College on October 6 also put Privitera in the books with the fourth best single game performance in Barton history.

Joining Maximiano and Seyfert on the 2nd team all-conference selections were offensive attackers freshman Valdyslav Peretyatko (8 goals, 3 assists), sophomore Ebrahim Diagne (8 goals, 1 assist) and freshman midfielder Tyrick Sutherland (1 goal, 2 assists).

Landing on the first team of the all-conference list, Kai Ishimaru joined Sepulveda and Peretyatko on the region's second team as the freshman midfielder rattled the nets six times to go along with four assists.
