A week off the pitch seemed to do the Barton Community College men's soccer team's offense some good as the Cougars exploded for a program tying output in a 16-0 victory Sunday at the Cougar Soccer Complex over Hesston College.

The ninth straight shutout improves the 6th ranked Cougars to 7-0-0 in conference play and 10-0-1 on the season while dropping Hesston to 1-6-0 in league play and 4-8-0 overall.

Next up is a Wednesday trip to Dodge City Community College for a 3:30 p.m. kick as Barton tries to secure its two-game lead in the West as the fourth place Conquistadors look to gain valuable points and make a run up the standings at 2-2-2 in West action and 5-2-2 overall.

The layoff from competition since September 28 seem to give the Cougars well-used time in tweaking the offense resulting in an eruption of the most goals since the 2009 squad achieved the feat on September 15 versus Independence Community College.

Eight collegiate firsts were recorded as twenty available players hit the pitch Sunday unleashing thirty-eight shots, ninth most in program history, with twenty-three towards frame.

Individually, a pair of Cougars had hat-trick afternoons led by Barton's leading scorer Gabrielle Privitera tying three others for the third best single game program performance accounting for eight points. The freshman netted the first of his trio just fifty-nine seconds into the contest on a breakaway to slam home David Lopez' long pass from the backline. Privitera went airborne for his second net shaker rising up to meet Kai Ishimaru's cross to put away Barton's sixth of seven first half goals. Dishing out two second half assists to lead the Region VI with his eleventh of the season, Privitera concluded his day on his twelfth goal to rank third best in the region and thirty-fifth point scored ranking in the nation's top ten.

Ebrahim Diagne also completed the goal trifecta in ringing the bell twice in the first half, scoring the Cougars' third and fourth goals, before completing the hat-trick six minutes into the second frame on his seventh of the year.

In addition to the net shakers, the Cougars played unselfishly throughout the day, distributing the wealth and dishing out seventeen assists for a program record eclipsing the thirteen handed out on September 23, 2016, versus Hesston.

Lapo Carradori joined Privitera and two other Cougars with a multi-assist game as the playmaker distributed a trio of dimes, each coming in second half action. Ishimaru's two assists added to his two goals for a six-point afternoon while fellow freshman Hayato Kawamoto also helped two of his teammates put tallies on the scoreboard.

Defensively, Barton held Hesston to just three total shots in front of goalkeeper Marco Seyfert with none on frame in running the Cougars' denial of goal to 880:33 minutes dating back to 5:33 left in first half action of the 1-all tie versus Northeastern Junior College on August 28.
