Seyfert anchors stingy Cougar defense to National Goalkeeper of the Week Award #GoBarton

Barton goalkeeper Marco Seyfert protects the goal while Cougar defense clamps down on a Northeastern player.

Marco Seyfert of the No. 15 ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team has been named the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week.

Seyfert anchored three consecutive shutouts last week aided by a stout defensive team effort keeping the sheet clean against eight shots on frame.

Securing Garden City's lone shot on goal, Seyfert turned away three big shots against Western Texas College before leading the Cougars in another strong defensive effort Sunday by rejecting four on frame as the defense held Rose State College scoreless after the Raiders put up eight goals the day prior against Region VI member Coffeyville.

Most recently the top ranked Region VI defense recorded their fourth straight shutout out as reserve goalkeeper Samuel Chantre rejected two shots in a 5-0 victory Wednesday at Hesston College.

Now 2-0-0 in Jayhawk West play and 5-0-1 on the season, Barton will host a key early conference battle on Saturday against Dodge City Community College in a 4:30 p.m. kick-off at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
