Texas trip for two as Cougar men win 4-2 over Dodge City #GoBarton

Barton men's soccer team following win over Dodge City

A day after the women's team punched their ticket to Texas, the sixth ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team will join them as the Cougars scored three second half goals to win 4-2 over Dodge City Community College in the second of the Region VI playoffs to close out the Cougar Sports Complex for the 2018 season.

Barton improves to 16-1-2 on the year while ending the Conquistadors' year at 11-5-2. Next up for the Cougars is Friday's 6:30 p.m. Plains District semifinals against Region V Champion Western Texas College (7-5) in Cleburne, Texas.

It took the Cougars just three minutes to get on the scoreboard with conference leading attacker Gabriel Arraes striking far post for his 18th of the season. Cyprien N'goma started the action with a pass across the field to Victor Gonzalez, completing the play finding Arraes just outside the 6-yard box. The goal moved the sophomore from Brazil into a tie for the 8th spot on the program's single season effort and career list with his 24th overall.

Bettering Barton's start to the game, Dodge City only took 1:47 into second half action to find the net as Enzo Grizzetti's cross was one-touched by Santiago Hernandez to Johnley Dezile who then sent a blazing rocket to the top shelf for his seventh of the year.

The Cougars took the lead for good less than four minutes later as a stroke of bad luck cost the Conquistadors as Damen Marcu's through ball to Tevin Rochester was deflected into the Dodge City net.

Set up off of Arraes' steal just outside the eighteen, the subsequent pass into the box to Cyprien N'goma was touched over to Nicolas Torres. As Dodge City keeper Rafael Callegari charged out to defend, Torres chipped the ball up towards the far post before getting deflected by a Conquistador defender.

Stepping up to the 12-yard mark, N'goma delivered a solid strike past Callegari for the sophomore from France's first collegiate goal pushing the Barton lead out to 3-1 with 23:48 remaining.

Exactly one minute later the Cougars rattled the net again as Baeza thwarted Dodge City's attack then quickly punted a ball past midfield with Marcu out racing the defense to add Barton's final tally. The goal was the fourth for the Denver freshman of the season while rewarding Baeza with a collegiate first assist.

Dodge City closed out the scoring with 1:07 remaining with Anthony Bolivar striking near post on the rebound from Baeza deflecting Dezile's shot to close out his Conquistador sophomore campaign with his sixth of the season.

Baeza had three saves in the contest including a horizontal rejection with five minutes remaining to protect the then-three goal lead improving to 12-0-1 on the season.
