Rochester and Baeza give Cougar soccer consecutive KJCCC honors #GoBarton

Barton Men's Soccer players Tevin Rochester and Felipe Baeza

Tevin Rochester and Felipe Baeza of the Barton Community College men's soccer team have been named the KJCCC's week six recipients of the player and goalkeeper honors.

Rochester had his first multi-goal game and distributed the game winning assist last week to help keep Barton atop the Jayhawk West standings. In Wednesday's victory against Northwest Kansas Technical College, Rochester provided the first half daggers in the eventual 5-0 win. The freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, concluded the week setting up KJCCC leading attacker Gabriel Arraes for the double overtime game winner Saturday at Garden City Community College.

Baeza turned back eight shots this past week anchoring a formidable back line improving to 7-0 on the season from Barton's two victories. Baeza and the Cougar defense allowed just one shot on goal Wednesday against Northwest Tech but against a dangerous offensive attack from Garden City on Saturday, Baeza was sent post to post in making seven saves on the night. Rejecting six in the first half alone on acrobatic efforts, Garden City managed to break through with a lone goal at the 58th minute on a redirected header past the diving Baeza to the far post. The Cougars tied it up and with Baeza making another save as Barton prevailed in the double overtime thriller.

Moving up three spots in the latest NJCAA Division I polls, the 14th ranked Cougars (6-0-1, 10-1-1) will have a little rest from action until returning to the pitch Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off at Hesston College

Baeza joins Arraes in earning two awards this season, with Rochester, Mario Magana, and Baeza's goalkeeping mate Oliver Semmle bringing the Cougars' honors to seven through the first six weeks.
