Bruce Turner of the Barton Community College men's soccer team has been awarded the KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week award for week seven. Turner becomes the fourth Cougar to earned conference honors this season joining Lucas Alves, Mario Ramirez, and fellow goalkeeper Juan Parente.
Being reinserted as the starting keeper last week, Turner kept the net clean in a pair of 2-0 road victories in conference/regional play. Helping Barton snap a two-game slide in the pivotal West battle at Garden City, Turner turned away four shots on frame including protecting another slim lead this past Saturday in Goodland versus Northwest Kansas Technical College.
Giving the Cougars the ability to rotate goalkeepers, Turner and Parente and the Barton defensive line have a combined six shutouts this season.
Last week's victories, along with yesterday's 2-1 win for the season sweep over Garden City, moved the Cougars into a second place tie in the Jayhawk West at 4-3 improving to 8-3 on the season and solidified the Cougars' top four regional standing moving to within a half game of second place at 6-3. Next up for the Cougars will be a Thursday regional home game versus Hesston College. Kick-off set for 4:00 p.m.
