Cougar golf with final day charge settles for third at KWU Fall Invitational

The Barton Community College men's golf team made a second day charge but unfortunately the Cougars couldn't make up the deficit in finishing third at the Kansas Wesleyan University Fall Invitational held Monday and Tuesday at the Salina Country Club in Salina, Kansas.  Barton posted a 19-over 299 to trail eventual winner Sterling College by eleven strokes after day one before firing a ten stroke improvement 289 on Tuesday finishing with a third place 588.   Sterling took the title improving five strokes on the final eighteen holes finishing with a 571 while fellow Jayhawk Conference member Dodge City Community College was runner-up with a 579.

The Cougars placed three golfers in the top fourteen of the seventy-seven man field led by sophomore Jakkapat Horsangchai's tie for third place.  Opening with an even par 70 and a three-way lock for first with two Sterling players, Horsangchai dropped to third with a 73 in finishing the tournament at 3-over 143 carding five birdies and an eagle in his thirty-six holes.

Two Cougars bolted up the leaderboard on the final day firing a final 1-over 71 round.  Thitipong Homruen opened with a 74 and 15th place sliding up to 9th place at 145 having carded an eagle and playing 3-under par on the par 5s.  Seokhun Kang followed his 76 and 26th place round jumping twelve spots to the 14th position finishing at 147 in part to five birdies throughout the two days.

Riley Kane led the Cougars in birdies chalking up six total following his opening 80 score with an improved 74 placing 34th overall at 154.  Jaron Kellerman rounded out the team with a 79 and 81 rounds placing 54th with a 160 while individualist Dakota Soukup carded a team leading twenty-three pars posting twin 77 scores tying Kane for the 34th position.

Barton will be back on the links next Monday as the Cougars travel to McPherson, Kansas, for the two-day Central Kansas Invitational held at Turkey Creek Golf Course.
