Barton Bowling wraps up first half of season at Bronco Open #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's and women's bowling teams returned to action this past weekend competing in the Bronco Open held in Hastings, Nebraska.

The Cougar men placed eleventh in Saturday's six game team challenge competition, knocking down 5059 pins finishing twenty-eight pins shy of Wayne State College. Host school Hastings College tallied the most tipping over 6001 pins with Morningside College finishing runner-up with 5717.

During Sunday's sixteen baker games competition, Barton moved up the leaderboard compiling 2670 pins finishing tenth falling two pins shy of Missouri Western State University's ninth place finish with 2672 pins. Hastings again claimed the team title, rolling over a 3065 mark with Ottawa University mowing down 2950 pins.

Barton finished the weekend with a ninth place showing tallying 7729 pins, falling just outside bracket play by 172 pins to NJCAA opponent Iowa Western Community College.

Freshman Ciaran Prickett led the charge individually for the Cougars finishing in the 53rd spot of the 132-man field with Creyton Nisly close behind in the 63rd position. Prickett finished individually with the seventh best game bowled recording a 242.

On the women's side the Cougars rolled to an opening day fifth place finish knocking over 5049 pins edging out Columbia College by fourteen pins. Morningside College led the field after the six game team challenge tallying 5484 pins with Ottawa University compiling 5445 for second.

In Sunday's sixteen game baker competition, the Cougars faltered two sports scoring 2536 pins but was not enough to halt the run as Barton secured a seventh place draw in the eight team afternoon bracket.

Bracket play was unkind to the Lady Cougars as Barton would be bounced in the opening round to eventual champion Morningside College.

Leading the way for the Cougars was Alexandria Newell finishing 43rd overall busting over 880 pins while Taylor Cessna finishing two spots back in the 93 entry field. Erin Mayfield led Barton with the best single game score of 206 while also posting the best average score for the Cougars of 182.25 in her four games rolled.

The inaugural season for the Barton bowling programs will kick back up on January 11th and 12th, 2020 for the SWIBC held at the AMF Richardson Lanes in Richardson, Texas.
