Barton Basketball Head Coach Craig Fletchall coaching record through 2019

Now into his 15th season at the helm, Craig "Fletch" Fletchall owns the most wins in Barton men’s basketball history with a 326-126 overall record (.721) and a 159-93 (.631) record in the rugged Jayhawk Conference, compiling a 427-184 record (.699) throughout his nineteen year collegiate coaching career.

For the third straight year Fletchall led the Cougars to not only second place in the Jayhawk Conference but also to the semifinals of the Region VI Tournament. Concluding the season with a 15-8 conference mark and 25-8 overall record, two sophomores earned post-season recognition with Elijah Ford landing on both first team selections of the All-Jayhawk West and Region VI while transfer Leondre Washington was a second team selection and earned all-tournament honors as well.

Fletchall’s 13th season at the helm produced a Top-8 finish at the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Tournament and was selected as the KBCA Men’s Two-Year Coach of the Year. Going 27-9 in the 207-18 season including a 21-5 second place finish in the rugged KJCCC and a final four run in the Region VI Tournament, Fletchall had three of his Cougars earn post-season accolades. Kawanise “Squeaky” Wilkins led the trio as a 1st Team All-Conference and All-Region selection, with Marvin Cannon and Keshon Montague adding All-National Tournament honors.

Barton closed the 2016-17 season also in the final four of the Region VI Championships, ending the season at 25-8 following a second place 19-7 season in the Jayhawk Division I standings. Three Cougars earned post season honors including two on the All-Region VI team.

The Cougars tied for fifth in the fourteen team Jayhawk Conference in the 2015-16 season at 10-9, finishing the year at 18-13 overall. Two Cougars earned All-Conference honors with one being named to the All-Region VI Division I team.

The 2014-15 season produced a conference second place 12-4 record in finishing the year at 24-7. Finishing just outside the final NJCAA Division I poll, Barton spent time in the Top-25 splitting the season series with No. 7 Butler Community College while sweeping No. 23 Hutchinson Community College. Three Cougars garnered All-Jayhawk West honors with Ahmad Walker becoming the 16th Cougar and 5th in the Fletchall era to earn NJCAA Division I All-American honors.

During the 2013-14 season, the Cougars fell in the first round of the Region VI playoffs to conclude the season at 20-11 overall and a tie for third place at 8-6 in the tough West division. The season also saw Fletchall assume the top spot in Barton history as on November 8, 2013, Fletchall picked up win #189 earning the top spot for wins in Barton men's basketball history surpassing Dan McGovern’s 188 mark set during the 1986-1994 seasons.

A season prior Fletchall guided the Cougars to a 28-6 season, 12-4 in the division, ending the season one victory away from the NJCAA Division I Tournament and finishing at #24 in the nation. The Cougars captured a road quarterfinal victory then knocked off the Jayhawk West regular season champion before falling in the Region VI Championship game to the nation’s number nine ranked team.

Fletchall guided the Cougars to a 26-7 record in the 2011-12 season and ten consecutive weeks in the NJCAA Division I Top 20. After knocking off the #5 ranked team in the country in the Region VI quarterfinals, the Cougars season came to an end in the semifinals.

Under Fletchall the Cougars have spent a lot of time ranked in the NJCAA Top 25 with the highest ranking coming in the 2011-12 season as Barton climbed all the way to 7th in the polls. This matched the feat of his 2009 team that captured the Jayhawk West title but lost in the Region VI semifinals.

Prior to coming to Barton, Coach Fletchall was the head coach at Neosho County Community College, where he has spent 5 seasons with the Panthers. In his final season at Neosho, Coach Fletchall guided Neosho to the Region VI finals for the 1st time in school history. The Tigers were ranked as high as 12th that year - the highest in history at Neosho. His 5-year mark guiding the Panthers was 101-58.

Coach Fletchall has spent most of his career in the Jayhawk Conference and its surrounding communities. A Hutchinson native, Fletchall continued his educational career at Wichita State University and Fort Hays State University.

Spending 11 seasons in the high school ranks, Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic is where Fletchall began his coaching career, going 40-9 in his 2 seasons guiding the Celtics to the 1987 state. Moving on to Wichita Kapaun Mount Carmel, Fletchall led the Crusaders for three seasons before taking the job at Shawnee Mission East. In his 6 years at East, his clubs went 86-47 including back-to-back Sub-State titles for the only time in school history, and posted the school record for number of wins at 19 in his final season in 1996. Earning league Coach of the Year honors at Trinity (1987) and East (1993), Fletchall was 146-99 in his 11 seasons at the high school level.

Beginning his service in the Jayhawk Conference as an assistant at Cowley County for 3 seasons, the Tigers set the school record for wins in 2 of those 3 seasons. In 1998 – Coach Fletchall’s initial season at Cowley – the Tigers won 25 games only to better that mark in 2000 at 26. From there he moved on to Neosho where he took the Panthers to within a game of the NJCAA National Tournament.

Fletchall and his wife Patty have three children, Mara and Melyne of the home, and oldest daughter Morgan and son-in-law Devin Hoffman, along with their children Murray and Lace, residing in nearby Claflin, KS.
