The Barton Community College men's basketball team had their season come to an end in the Quarterfinal round of the Region VI Tournament as the Cougars never led Sunday at Dodge City's United Wireless Arena in an eventual 92-79 defeat to Coffeyville Community College.

The 4th seeded Cougars' 2019-20 campaign comes to a close at 23-9 while the 5th seeded Red Ravens improve to 24-8 advancing into the Monday's 7:00 p.m. semifinals against top seed Cowley College.

Coffeyville came out hot, knocking down four three pointers but a pair of Martin Vogts' treys kept the Cougars in it trailing by just 12-10 as just three minutes had click off the clock.

The Red Ravens would shoot over 55% in the first twenty minutes, before an even better 60% in the second half for a sizzling 57.4% with fifty-four of the points on the day coming in the paint. Barton, meanwhile, opened the first twenty on 36.4% shooting but warmed up to 56.7% in the final twenty in finishing at 46%.

The Red Ravens stretched the gap to seven over the next four minutes, riding a five to seven point margin for the final time with 6:12 remaining as Vogts buried his final three pointer as a Cougar closing Barton to within 31-25. It would be as close as the Cougars would get the rest of the afternoon as Coffeyville outscored Barton 17-8 to enjoy a 48-33 halftime lead.

The margin would eventually creep out to twenty with 6:29 to play in the game before the Cougars could finally muster a run to extend the season.

Barton strung seven straight in the next two minutes, Keandre Bowles with three in the stretch with a pair of Vogts free throws and Jarin Koehler baseline feed to Anthony Atkinson-Enneking helping Barton close to within 76-63 with 4:22 left.

Coffeyville canned its eighth three-pointer of the afternoon coming out of the media timeout, with Vogts' layup from a Bowles' drive-and-dish countering on the Cougars' end of the court.

Barton was finally able to cut the deficit to under double digits with two minutes remaining behind Bowles' temporary take-over of the game scoring eight points in the next two minutes.
Beginning with a right baseline trey, Bowles buried another trifecta from the right wing before coming up with a big steal on the defensive end before hitting a spinning floater in the lane cutting the gap to 82-73 2ith 2:16 left.

Desperate to get defensive stops, Barton gave up a layup pushing the margin back to eleven with the Red Ravens perfect on their next six trips to the line increasing the lead to thirteen.

Bowles led just three Cougars in double-digits scoring twenty-one points of 50% shooting including 3-of-4 behind the arc and a team high four steals.
